President’s Thoughts for September 2017
It has come time for me to reflect on my year as your Club President. I wish to thank you all for your support and assistance this past year. One of my goals when I started my term was to get more members involved with our many activities and committees. I have seen numerous people step up and take leadership roles. My thanks to all of you for your help and assistance. I feel privileged to lead our Club, and want to thank all of the work that previous leaders, committee chairs, and “Worker Bees” have invested to establish our Club’s strength.
My wish is that you continue your involvement. Should you feel you are not ready to head a committee or activity, I would like you to select some area that interests you, and just help. Become a “Team Helper”. You will realize great rewards and personal growth.
“When you stop growing you start dying.”
~ William S. Burroughs
Godfather of the “Beat Generation”
Let us all continue to grow Our Club in support to the youth of our community and Club membership. My challenge to you is that you should find and recruit a new Club team member to be your successor, co-helper, and Club friend.
As you do this, you will help ensure our Club’s ability to serve our youth into the future.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,
Don Gorzek

Packer Raffle
As we go to press there are still quite a few unsold tickets left for this year Packers Raffle to be held on Monday, Sept. 11 at Village Bowl. Since expenses have already been met, it means that every unsold ticket at this point costs us $100 in lost profit. Anyone that thinks they may have a buyer should contact their team captain, or Dan Schwind at Town Bank or me by phone or mail.
Let’s not let this be the only year in the last decade or so when we don’t sell out our allotted number of tickets!

Club Picnic
Photos by Don Gorzek
A GREAT time was had by all!! Our Optimist Club Picnic was a funfilled, relaxing, and a memorable event. A special thanks to Dan and Lynette Shepherd, our gracious hosts. The setting was beautiful and the facility made the coordination of the event effortless. Big thanks go out to all of the workers, Bob and Chris O’Reilly, Barb Schmit, Kim Wenzel, Larry Hebbring, Linda Zylka, and of course my fabulous sidekick chef, Charlie Keller. The food, beverages, and setting, seemed to please all.
Please consider putting this event on your calendar for sometime next August 2018. It’s a great day to share stories, laugh, and be proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past year.
I wish you health, happiness, and a whole lot of optimism. See ya next year.

The park in memory of John S. Taylor was rededicated on August 6. Officer Taylor was a Menomonee Falls police officer killed in the line of duty. The Optimist club donated one of the flag poles.

The Junior Optimist Club board had a great time working the popcorn wagon as a team this summer. Although we took a little break over the summer months, we have met and are ready to swing back into action this school year. We are excited to continue some of the events that have become tradition at MFHS over the last couple of years and to start a few new projects that are unique to this board. We think we can make this the best year yet!
