Since its start in 1928, the Optimist Oratorical Contest has become the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship.
The 2024 Optimist Oratorical topic is: How to Change the World With Optimism
HOW TO APPLY
Interested students should prepare a 4- to 5-minute speech on the assigned topic to be presented attheir local Optimist Club’s contest.
The speeches are judged at the Club level, Zone level, Regional level (if needed), and then at the District level.
Students need to submit an application and speech in writing prior to the event.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The contest is open to students under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2023.

DISTRICT COMPETITION: Saturday, May 11, 2024, Hilton Garden Inn NW, 11600 W Park Pl, Milwaukee, WI 53224
REGIONAL COMPETITION: July 18-19, 2024, Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri
Each Regional Winner will compete in the World Championship Contest for a chance to win a first, second, or third place scholarship of $15,000,
