SUMMARY:Football Crazr Sweepstakes
DESCRIPTION:The Club has taken 210 Football Crazr raffle tickets to sell for the SWIS District and our Club. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets or helping to sell the 210 tickets for the club please contact Larry Hebbring. Last year we sold 300 tickets and raised over $1\,600.00 for the club and people who bought our tickets were awarded over $1\,000.00. It is a fun way to watch the 18-week football season and an easy sell at $20.00 per ticket. Contact Larry at 414-899-5807 or larryh@starpromo.net \nMORE INFO \nThe $20.00 ticket follows the 17 weeks of the NFL football season and each ticket holder has a chance to win as much as $500.00 each week. In each week\, the ticket owner gets 4 teams\, chosen at random. If the teams’ point totals are the highest for the week or the lowest for the week\, the ticket owner receives a cash prize. Ticket buyers can go to www.swisdistrict.org/resources to check weekly winners. If they are a winner a check will be sent out to them promptly. To make sure a winner gets their check\, stubs need to be handed in\, completely filled out\, legible and in black ink. \nLast year we had over 30 winners totaling over $3500.00 for club sold tickets. It is a great way to follow the season and all you have to do is buy/sell a $20.00 ticket. The $20.00 and the ticket stub must come back to us (The Optimist Club). The stub must be filled out completely and legibly\, if not\, we won’t be able to send their check if they win. All winnings will be sent to the ticket holder without any need for the ticket holder to interact. \nAll prizes are listed on each ticket. This goes on for 17 weeks with $1\,000.00 given out each week and $17\,000.00 given out for the year. The biggest winners are the scholarships we give out each year from the monies earned from our fund raisers. \nPayouts every week: \n\nHighest $500.00\n2nd $150.00\n3rd $100.00\n4th $60.00\n5th $50.00\n6th $35.00\n7th  $30.00\n8th  $25.00\nLowest $25.00\n2nd lowest  $15.00\n3rd lowest $10.00.\n\nEach ticket is also sold with Fund Crazr Discount Code.  This code automatically enters the ticket buyer into the Football Crazr Sweepstakes and entitles the buyer to deep discounts in the Crazr Saver Store\, using the discount code found on the front of the ticket. \nTicket buyers can go to www.swisdistrict.org/resources to check weekly winners.  If they are a winner a check will be set sent out to them promptly. To make sure a winner gets their check\, stubs need to be handed in\, completely filled out\, legible and in black ink. All 1000 tickets need to accounted for. \n  \nFootball Crazr Sweepstakes Chair: Larry Hebbring

SUMMARY:Packer Raffle
DESCRIPTION:Packer Raffle\nWinners were drawn at the 2022 Raffle Tailgate Party on Monday\, Sept. 12\, 2022 at Village Bowl . Included in this year’s In-House raffle was an autographed LeRoy Butler Packer jersey.  The famed defensive back was voted into the NFL Hall of Fame this year. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCraig Linert of Wauwatosa was the Grand Prize winner of the 26th Annual Packer Raffle held September 12 at Village Bowl in the Falls.  He chose the Dallas game to attend\, a wise selection as Green Bay upset the Mike McCarthy-led Cowboys with Linert and seven others watching from club seats at Lambeau Field. \nSecond prize of $1\,000 went to Keith Songstad of the Falls who had won $250 in last year’s event.  Third place money of $600 was earned by Dirk Wildt\, husband of member Stevie Mistele-Wildt. \nLongtime member Linda Zylka took home $400 for fourth place and members Donna Bosch\, Vicki Boelter and Ross Sharkey each earned $250 prizes.  Other $250 winners with Optimist connections were Mary Wenzel\, mother of member Kim; Tricia Kohl\, wife of former president Rick Kohl; and Jess Koehler\, wife of Dustin. \nAdditional $250 winners were K. Brooks\, Jim Dieter and Rita Stelpflug of the Falls; Pat String and Betty Rogan of Germantown; Bob Wagner of Sussex; Tyler Baehr of Cedarburg and Mike Jasson of Waukesha.  Jason Hemke of Menomonee Falls won a free entry to next year’s contest. \nWith a net profit of $21\,223.07\, the club earned more than $20\,000 for the 11th consecutive year. But that figure was $925.21 less than projected and $326.64 less than last year due to rising expenses on several fronts. \nA word of thanks goes out to all club members who sold or bought tickets and to those helping out the night of the drawing.  They include Mary Schlumpf\, Meg Latus\, Marcia Hebbring\, Clara Scheckel\, Cathy and Jim Hazzard at the front door; John Yusko\, Carol Schulteis\, Jenny O’Keefe and Joy Fricke at the ticket-distribution table; in-house raffle tickets sellers\, Tim Newman\, Shannon Diedrich\, Larry Hebbring\, Dan Schwind\, Tom Ciskoski\, Greg Mattson\, Tex Reiter and Diane Matuszak.  Kudos too to Rog Roger’s State Farm Insurance and Terry Marcou of Schmidt & Bartelt for the printing of tickets and supplying the liquor basket; Town Bank for providings the food and beverage enroute for the winners; Matt Hakes and his Virtual Freight Company for covering the expense of the tailgate party in Green Bay for the winners; and Barry Landowski and Minute Man Press for printing the flyers;  A special thanks to Amy and Andrew Manion of Madison who donated the Packer Tickets that were raffled off in-house netting $1\,000. \nOnce again\, this event could not have happened without the Team captains – Dan Schwind\, Tim Newman\, Jerry Mislang\, Donna Bosch\, Terry Fitzsimmons\, Chad DeLuka\, Herb Gross\, Carl Trapp Sr. Del Kreuser\, Tom Ciskoski\, Larry Hebbring\, Marcia Hebbring\, Shannon Diedrich\, Debbie and Lenny Kimmel and Mary Schlumpf. \nFinally\, thanks to longtime member Bob Ehmke\, who started this event in 1997.  Over the 26 years of its existence\, it has raised nearly 1/2 million dollars ($500\,000) for the youth of our community! \nAfter 15 years\, I am turning over the reins for this event to Tom Ciskoski for next year.  Any suggestions for improving the contest can be directed to him or any of the captains listed above \n  \nThe particulars…. \n• First prize is a trip for eight people to Lambeau Field to see the Packers play in your choice of nine regular season games. Also included are a luxury limo ride to and from the game\, a tailgate party at Lambeau\, Packer wearing apparel\, food and beverage enroute to Green Bay and $1\,000 cash to be used however the winners want. We will provide the limo ride from anywhere in Wisconsin. \n• Tickets cost $100 each but remember it’s for eight people. So\, four couples could pay $25 each\, or eight buddies could chip in $12.50 apiece. However (per state auditor’s directive) only one person’s name can go on the ticket stub. \n• Second Prize is $1\,000\, third prize is $600\, fourth prize is $400. Thirteen more awards of $250 will be given and one person will win a free entry for 2022. \n• Sales are limited to no more than 350 tickets. Therefore with 18 prizes\, contestants have a better than 1 in 20 chance of more than doubling their money\, \n • Each ticket allows one person to come to the drawing and tailgate party held at Village Bowl. Over $2\,000 in door prizes will be given out to those in attendance that night. Others who have contributed to the purchase of a ticket can attend for $10. Free food\, beer and soda make it a fun event. \n• Please write your name on the back of each ticket you buy/sell as it will help us track down the winners. \n  \nPacker Raffle Chair: Ed Schlumpf \nPacker Raffle Co-chairs: Del Kreuser\, Dan Schwind\, Joe Ludan

SUMMARY:Popcorn Wagon
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nLarry is working on the teams and schedule for the summer of 2023. You will hear from your team captain soon. This is a great fundraiser for our club! \n  \n  \n  \n  \nA few reminders about working the wagon.  The hours are 6:00 – 9:00\, so workers need to arrive at about 5:45 so the first bag is ready at about 6:00.  As in the recent past we will also have kettle corn for sale each night as well.  Kettle corn is prepared by a 3rd party and ready for sale.  Other processes are the same as previous years.  For newer members\, the club is divided into 15 teams that each work a Sunday to Saturday week.  Each team has a captain who will have scheduled you to work.  They will be present at 5:45 to help you get started and take you through the opening and closing process.  Veteran poppers may just open on their own.  There are written instructions about what needs to be done and are located on the front cover of a 3-ring binder which usually is found on the back counter in plain sight.  If you don’t see it\, look on the shelf below.  This is very important since everyone is expected to close up on their own.  It is easy enough\, but the instructions insure you don’t miss critical functions like locking windows and the door and turning off the propane.  It is best that even seasoned workers review the checklist. \nThere is a tally sheet on the back counter.  So everyone knows\, it is not necessary to mark down your sales\, nor is it necessary to track tips separately.  Each morning the Kernel (Larry) visits the wagon\, counts the money and resets the box to $100\, the starting amount.  He writes in the total from the previous night.  If you wish to mark your sales\, that’s fine\, but only for your purposes.  Larry will often let you know what sales were\, but not always.  If you want to know\, email him. \nIf you are new to the club\, it would be a good idea to stop in at the wagon before you are scheduled to work and let the people working that night show you the ropes.  It isn’t complicated at all\, but like anything\, needs to be done correctly.   Like never forget to turn on the stirrer when restarting the popper\, or you will quickly have very burned popcorn. \nThere are nights when special events occur in the park\, like the concert last night.  It began at 5:00\, so hours had to be expanded to 4:00 – 9:00.  Your captain will advise you when such things occur.  Most concerts don’t begin before 6:00\, but they still require some adjustment to hours. \nIf you are unable to work the week you are assigned\, please let your captain know and you will get moved to another team.  We need all members involved.  We can work with your schedule. \nThe chairman of the popcorn wagon is Larry Podolske.  If you have questions\, want to work extra nights\, or didn’t see the list of all the teams sent by Dan Schwind last week\, contact him at either email podolske@yahoo.com or phone 262-255-6259.  Or see me at the wagon as I’m often there. \n2022 is off and running.  Lenny & Debbie Kimmel are the captains for the first week.  Stop up and say hello to whoever they having working.  It also is a great chance to see what is happening as far as the building of the new children’s play area to the west of the stage arena.  Things are really moving in the park. \n~ Larry Podolske \n  \nProceeds from popcorn wagon sales go towards the many programs support by the Club. Optimist Clubs are focused entirely on support youth programs like the Fishing Derby\, Post Prom\, college scholarships\, essay and speaking competitions and most visible\, the Independence Day Parade\, along with many contributions to youth organizations. \nPopcorn Wagon Chair: Larry Podolske \nPopcorn Wagon Co-chair: Tim Newman

SUMMARY:2023 Scholarship Golf Outing
DESCRIPTION:Wow\, what a day it was.  The weather was sunny\, but a little cool.  We can deal with the cool as long as the rain stayed away\, which it did.  The winning group in Flight 1 was Mike Yanke\, Carl Holzem\, Ken Pulvermacher\, and Jeff Schwalbach shooting -15.  The winning group in Flight 2 was Larry Hebbring\, Larry Barbera\, George Downey and Tom Horne shooting -8.  The winning group in the Women’s division was Cindy Krause\, Kim Strachota\, Cheri Schadeberg and Amy Johnson shooting -2.  The putting contest winner was Mike Eklund with a winning score of 26 (out of a possible 30).  The real winner though this day is the kids as all money raised goes to scholarships for high school seniors this year. \nWe are thankful to all the donors for our outing that helped us maximize our profits from local businesses to individual Optimists that helped us out.  See the attached sheet that details all the donors for the day.  A huge thank you to all.  If I missed someone\, I apologize.  Local businesses constantly get hit with donation requests.  If you patronize any of those listed\, please thank them for their support of our outing.  They really appreciate people noticing and acknowledging it.  A big thank you to the volunteers – Marcia Hebbring\, Shannon Dederich\, Kathy Matthiesen\, Joy Fricke\, Larry Podolske\, Stevie Mistle Wildt\, Laura Ciletti\, and Clara Scheckel.  They make it easy on me as they jump in and handle everything that comes their way that day.  A special shout out to Carol Schulteis and Kristy Gruenwald who not only made the goodies for the drink cart but also maneuvered their cart around 3 courses to make sure they hit all the groups to keep them hydrated with their goodies.  A big thank you to Ed Schlumpf who came out to our event in the afternoon\, just to handle the auction duties for our event.  The voice and silent auctions raised over $3000.00.  A thank you to Jon Cline for capturing the photos for our event and a thank you to Jerry Mislang for helping capture winning bidders during the voice auction.  A huge huge thank you to our committee – Greg Mattson\, Tom Ciskoski\, Scott Drier\, John Yusko\, Carol Schulties\, and Joy Fricke.  It is truly a team effort to pull this off and everyone on the committee pitches in to get donated items we use in our outing.  A thank you also to all those that golfed\, and those that recruited gofers for our outing.  Without the golfers\, all our efforts mean nothing.  We ended up having 38 foursomes register\, with 37 showing up the day of\, which make this our biggest event ever.  Two final thank yous go out to Mike Lehman and the staff at Ironwood Golf course for making the day go smoothly and Chip Bunxel and Bunzel’s Meat Market for preparing very tasty food for lunch\, during the golf and afterwards.  They also donated a nice auction item to us that raised $250. \nIf you have any feedback or suggestions for next year\, please feel free to reach out to me at a meeting\, via email\, or on my cell phone.  We are always open to suggestions of how to make the outing better.  Mark your calendars for next year – May 15\, 2024 (third Wednesday of May).  Thanks again to everyone. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nphotos by Jon Cline \n  \nScholarship Golf Outing Chair: Todd Paulus \nScholarship Golf Outing Co-chair: Terry Frisk

SUMMARY:Fishing Derby
DESCRIPTION:Well\, the 2023 Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls Kids Catch and Release Fishing Derby is in the books\, and WOW\, what a fantastic event it was!  This year’s fishing derby took place the morning of Saturday\, May 13th at the Mill Pond.  The weather turned out decent.  While it looked like it wanted to rain early\, other than maybe a drop or two\, the rain stayed away.  The temperature was cool\, but certainly not has cold as we have seen in the past.  And while the sun did not come out much\, overcast skies provided for some perfect fishing weather.  Hundreds of people enjoyed the derby\, including the 123 kids who registered to fish\, many parents\, grandparents\, and other family and friends who joined!  The fish were biting!  Between 10:00 AM and noon\, at least 43 kids caught fish\, for a total of at least 99 fish caught. \nSome of the highlights of the fish caught were an 11.5” Large Mouth Bass\, an 11” Rainbow Trout\, multiple Trouts measuring in at over 10 inches\, an 11” Catfish\, and a 14.5” Sucker Fish.  We also had an 8-year-old who caught 12 fish and a 13-year-old who caught 15 fish! \nDuring registration\, each child received a t-shirt and a grab bag with several different give-a-aways\, including items from the DNR\, candy\, coupons\, fishing tackle\, etc.  In addition\, representatives from the Germantown Fleet Farm store joined us and handed out items for the kids.  Thank you\, Fleet Farm!  The Neighborhood Watch did a great job keeping any hunger away.  They sold coffee\, donuts\, hotdogs\, and other treats from the concession stand.  Jerry Mislang did an excellent job emceeing the event using the sound equipment Danny Shepherd set-up and ran throughout the event.  In case you missed it\, Jerry had many “fish” jokes throughout the morning\, which really kept the crowd entertained.  Jon Cline took photos throughout the derby!  Door prizes were given throughout the morning to all kids who registered\, and there was a trophy presentation at the end.  And maybe most importantly\, the fishing derby allowed for quality time for families in our community to bond with one another and create very special memories.  The morning was an absolute success filled with so many smiles! \nNew this year\, we had a 50 / 50 raffle at the fishing derby in honor of the club’s 50th anniversary!  Ticket sales totaled $296\, sending a lucky winner home with $148 and bringing in $148 to the club to help cover some of the costs of the derby. \nSue Carny and I would like to thank each and everyone who helped make this event possibly.  A huge thank you goes out to Jerry Mislang\, Danny Shepherd\, Larry Hebbring\, Kathie Jensen\, Kathy Matthiessen\, Kirsten Sperl\, Joanne Wanner\, Lance Newman\, Greg Mattson\, Tom Walkner\, Annie Jurczyk\, Steve Miller\, Larry Podolske\, Bob Wenzel\, Jon Cline\, Fred Blanke\, Mitch Rea\, Del Kreuser\, Stuart Reichl\, Tim Newman\, and Kim Wenzel. \nWe would also like to thank our sponsors and others who contributed to the derby\, including The Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls\, The Village of Menomonee Falls\, The Menomonee Falls Police Department\, the Menomonee Falls Neighborhood Watch\, RB Enterprises of Menomonee Falls\, Krueger’s Entertainment Center\, Fleet Farm in Germantown\, Cops and Kids Foundation\, Sandy Spring Farm\, the DNR\, and Tru Turn. \nWe would also like to thank the Menomonee Falls CE & Rec\, The Falls Neighbors Magazine\, and the Menomonee Falls School District* who helped get the word out for the derby. \nWe sure hope we did not miss anyone\, as there are so many who made this 2023 Kids Fishing Derby possible!  THANK YOU\, THANK YOU\, THANK YOU!  We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2024 Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls Kids Fishing Derby next May! \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nphotos by Jon Cline \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThe event is truly a community event with the Village of Menomonee Falls supplying the permits for the event and money for stocking Mill Pond with fish; the Menomonee Falls Neighborhood Watch operating the concession stand; The Menomonee Falls Police Department supplying security and the public address system; the Wisconsin DNR and a local fish hatchery stocking trout\, bluegills and bass in the pond and the Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls running the event. \nFishing Derby Chair: Sue Carney \nFishing Derby Co-chair: Dustin Koehler

Shannon is the daughter of Linda and Bryan Doherty. Shannon also won the Talent Award and was named the Spirit Award winner by her fellow participants. \nIf the Doherty name sounds familiar it is because Shannon is following in the footsteps of sisters Ashley (DYW 2015) and Kailee (DYW 2019). \nGrace Booher was named 1st Alternate. Grace will receive a $1000 scholarship from the Optimist Club and $300 cash award from Community League of Menomonee Falls.
