SUMMARY:2023 Scholarship Golf Outing
DESCRIPTION:Wow\, what a day it was.  The weather was sunny\, but a little cool.  We can deal with the cool as long as the rain stayed away\, which it did.  The winning group in Flight 1 was Mike Yanke\, Carl Holzem\, Ken Pulvermacher\, and Jeff Schwalbach shooting -15.  The winning group in Flight 2 was Larry Hebbring\, Larry Barbera\, George Downey and Tom Horne shooting -8.  The winning group in the Women’s division was Cindy Krause\, Kim Strachota\, Cheri Schadeberg and Amy Johnson shooting -2.  The putting contest winner was Mike Eklund with a winning score of 26 (out of a possible 30).  The real winner though this day is the kids as all money raised goes to scholarships for high school seniors this year. \nWe are thankful to all the donors for our outing that helped us maximize our profits from local businesses to individual Optimists that helped us out.  See the attached sheet that details all the donors for the day.  A huge thank you to all.  If I missed someone\, I apologize.  Local businesses constantly get hit with donation requests.  If you patronize any of those listed\, please thank them for their support of our outing.  They really appreciate people noticing and acknowledging it.  A big thank you to the volunteers – Marcia Hebbring\, Shannon Dederich\, Kathy Matthiesen\, Joy Fricke\, Larry Podolske\, Stevie Mistle Wildt\, Laura Ciletti\, and Clara Scheckel.  They make it easy on me as they jump in and handle everything that comes their way that day.  A special shout out to Carol Schulteis and Kristy Gruenwald who not only made the goodies for the drink cart but also maneuvered their cart around 3 courses to make sure they hit all the groups to keep them hydrated with their goodies.  A big thank you to Ed Schlumpf who came out to our event in the afternoon\, just to handle the auction duties for our event.  The voice and silent auctions raised over $3000.00.  A thank you to Jon Cline for capturing the photos for our event and a thank you to Jerry Mislang for helping capture winning bidders during the voice auction.  A huge huge thank you to our committee – Greg Mattson\, Tom Ciskoski\, Scott Drier\, John Yusko\, Carol Schulties\, and Joy Fricke.  It is truly a team effort to pull this off and everyone on the committee pitches in to get donated items we use in our outing.  A thank you also to all those that golfed\, and those that recruited gofers for our outing.  Without the golfers\, all our efforts mean nothing.  We ended up having 38 foursomes register\, with 37 showing up the day of\, which make this our biggest event ever.  Two final thank yous go out to Mike Lehman and the staff at Ironwood Golf course for making the day go smoothly and Chip Bunxel and Bunzel’s Meat Market for preparing very tasty food for lunch\, during the golf and afterwards.  They also donated a nice auction item to us that raised $250. \nIf you have any feedback or suggestions for next year\, please feel free to reach out to me at a meeting\, via email\, or on my cell phone.  We are always open to suggestions of how to make the outing better.  Mark your calendars for next year – May 15\, 2024 (third Wednesday of May).  Thanks again to everyone. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nphotos by Jon Cline \n  \nScholarship Golf Outing Chair: Todd Paulus \nScholarship Golf Outing Co-chair: Terry Frisk

SUMMARY:Popcorn Wagon
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nLarry is working on the teams and schedule for the summer of 2023. You will hear from your team captain soon. This is a great fundraiser for our club! \n  \n  \n  \n  \nA few reminders about working the wagon.  The hours are 6:00 – 9:00\, so workers need to arrive at about 5:45 so the first bag is ready at about 6:00.  As in the recent past we will also have kettle corn for sale each night as well.  Kettle corn is prepared by a 3rd party and ready for sale.  Other processes are the same as previous years.  For newer members\, the club is divided into 15 teams that each work a Sunday to Saturday week.  Each team has a captain who will have scheduled you to work.  They will be present at 5:45 to help you get started and take you through the opening and closing process.  Veteran poppers may just open on their own.  There are written instructions about what needs to be done and are located on the front cover of a 3-ring binder which usually is found on the back counter in plain sight.  If you don’t see it\, look on the shelf below.  This is very important since everyone is expected to close up on their own.  It is easy enough\, but the instructions insure you don’t miss critical functions like locking windows and the door and turning off the propane.  It is best that even seasoned workers review the checklist. \nThere is a tally sheet on the back counter.  So everyone knows\, it is not necessary to mark down your sales\, nor is it necessary to track tips separately.  Each morning the Kernel (Larry) visits the wagon\, counts the money and resets the box to $100\, the starting amount.  He writes in the total from the previous night.  If you wish to mark your sales\, that’s fine\, but only for your purposes.  Larry will often let you know what sales were\, but not always.  If you want to know\, email him. \nIf you are new to the club\, it would be a good idea to stop in at the wagon before you are scheduled to work and let the people working that night show you the ropes.  It isn’t complicated at all\, but like anything\, needs to be done correctly.   Like never forget to turn on the stirrer when restarting the popper\, or you will quickly have very burned popcorn. \nThere are nights when special events occur in the park\, like the concert last night.  It began at 5:00\, so hours had to be expanded to 4:00 – 9:00.  Your captain will advise you when such things occur.  Most concerts don’t begin before 6:00\, but they still require some adjustment to hours. \nIf you are unable to work the week you are assigned\, please let your captain know and you will get moved to another team.  We need all members involved.  We can work with your schedule. \nThe chairman of the popcorn wagon is Larry Podolske.  If you have questions\, want to work extra nights\, or didn’t see the list of all the teams sent by Dan Schwind last week\, contact him at either email podolske@yahoo.com or phone 262-255-6259.  Or see me at the wagon as I’m often there. \n2022 is off and running.  Lenny & Debbie Kimmel are the captains for the first week.  Stop up and say hello to whoever they having working.  It also is a great chance to see what is happening as far as the building of the new children’s play area to the west of the stage arena.  Things are really moving in the park. \n~ Larry Podolske \n  \nProceeds from popcorn wagon sales go towards the many programs support by the Club. Optimist Clubs are focused entirely on support youth programs like the Fishing Derby\, Post Prom\, college scholarships\, essay and speaking competitions and most visible\, the Independence Day Parade\, along with many contributions to youth organizations. \nPopcorn Wagon Chair: Larry Podolske \nPopcorn Wagon Co-chair: Tim Newman
